Scott started at a young age with his dream of being a beach music radio dj in his bedroom playing music on his stereo and pretending to be a dj on his show called “Beach Trip”. His father & Mother was a big influence on him because that is the music he grow up listening to when with them at the beach, in the home or traveling in the car. Years later (1994) he attended a shag club Lincolnton Easy Going Shaggers with his parents and seen a shag club dj Bobby Fowler “The Boogie Man” and it sparked his interest in becoming a mobile dj so he started his journey and purchased his 1st set of sound equipment with his cousin Phil Kistler “Dr. Philgood” and it all began with Two Dimensions Disc Jockey Service. He and Phil played for shag clubs and private events for several years where they met a man by the name of Bill Mauney AKA: Mr. Bill. Bill mentored Scott and sponsored him in 1996 when Scott became a member of the Association of Beach & Shag Club DJs. After joining the ABSCDJ’s, Bill helped Scott get his start in radio at station called WSGE 91.7fm on Saturday afternoons. It was not until 2005 when Scott talked to Billy Scott about his childhood dream and ask Mr. Scott if he minded if he used the name “Beach Trip” for his radio show and use Mr. Scott’s song Beach Trip for his show opener. He agreed and that is when the Beach Trip Radio Show got started and been going ever since. Scott has now been on WSGE 91.7fm for 25 years as of May 2021. Scott has received nominations in the Carolina Beach Music Academy for FM DJ 2013, 2017 & 2018, 2022. Radio Show 2013,2017 & 2018 & Club & Mobile Dj 2018. And he has been a part of WSGE 6 times Winning FM Station of The Year 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019. Scott has been a Mobile Dj since 1992 and has done many events from Birthday parties, Weddings, Class Reunions, Corporate Events or any event that must be fun! In January 2021 Scott Launched the Beach Trip Internet Radio Station and host Show along with Angelia Skidmore, Tim Boggs, Brian Wilson and Danny Kimrey! In that same years Beach Trip Radio was nominated for Internet radio station of the year. Scott’s goal is to continue preserving the Carolina beach music sounds over the airwaves for many years to come.
I began my DJ career in 2005 when a fellow co-worker told me that he was thinking about getting out of the mobile dj business and he asked me if I wanted to buy it. And so, it began. The gigs started coming in and then came along the biggest influence for my love of music. My wife Susan Bass Wilson. With her background of many years in radio broadcasting, she taught me what it was like to enjoy “real” music and I was able to hone my dj skills because of her. From there I had an opportunity to be one of the house dj’s at the iconic O’Hara’s lounge in Charlotte, NC. O’Hara’s was the LAST hotel lounge left in Charlotte that offered live entertainment. Being able to perform there offered me experience that I probably couldn’t have gotten anywhere else. After O’Hara’s shut down, Susan and I were living in Monroe, NC and a startup low-power nonprofit radio station came on-line, and they were going to play Beach, Shag and oldies. After talking to Susan about it, I decided to give the station owner a call and see about getting an air shift and that is where “Sunday Evening at the Beach” was born! Even though this station is only 50watts and couldn’t be heard beyond the city limits, it was like I was broadcasting to the world. After I left that station, we moved to Stanley, NC where we currently make our home. In March of 2021 fellow DJ Tim Boggs contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in joining the lineup on Beach Trip Radio. I really had no desire to go back into broadcasting. But after some thought and conversation with my wife, I decided I would give it another try, and it has been nothing but FUN! Playing Carolina Beach & Shag music for you is so much fun and the interactions you have are priceless. There are a few DJ’s in this business who are an influence to me. Some I get my influence by just listening to them play and others I get it by talking to them and forming those bonds that I call friendships. But some of the biggest influences have come from musicians/artists, even though I can’t play an instrument, I love to sit and listen to some of the musicians and artists who have been around the industry a long time. It’s like reading a history book of music sometimes. But all my credit goes to God and my wife, Susan. They both have given me the tools that I need to do something that I enjoy. You can catch me on www.beachtripradio.com every Sunday evening from 4-6pm for “Sunday Evening at the Beach”.
"YOUR Saturday Night Beach Party"
Ron Moody is a member of “The Beach Music Hall of Fame”, and knows as much about true “Beach Music” as anyone around, having performed within that genre for decades. Ironically “YOUR Saturday Night Beach Party” began as the result of a tragic twist of fate. Ron’s long-time friend, Steve “Mr. Beach” Leonard, unexpectedly passed away in June 2016, and Ron was asked to take over the broadcast.
At the time, Ron was hosting his other show, “Retro Rock & Soul – The Music & The Memories”, so the thought of taking over another endeavor took quite a bit of introspection. After much consideration, he did take over the broadcast in September 2016, re-branding it with its current title… “YOUR Saturday Night Beach Party”, and the result has been phenomenal!
Now, Ron is expanding the show and bringing “Beach Music” back to the Richmond market, as well as to other areas in the Southeast
“YOUR Saturday Night Beach Party” currently airs on Boomtown Richmond, 92.9 & 101.7 FM, Saturdays, 6 til 8 PM. The Show also streams www.boomtownrichmond.com & there is a boomtownrichmond phone app
The show also airs on WFLO, Farmville VA, 870 AM, Saturdays 4 til 6 PM. The show also streams www.wflo.net
It also airs Saturday nights on Randolph – Macon College “Stinger” Radio
Starting January 2023, the show is scheduled to air on “Beach Trip Radio" Saturday Nights 7-9pm
Retro Rock and Soul – The Music and the Memories 12pm-2pm
“Retro Rock and Soul – The Music and the Memories” is an exciting radio concept created and developed by Ron Moody. Ron’s goal is to target an audience, comprised of 77 million Baby Boomers in the United States, as well as to “educate” a younger demographic regarding the history of popular music. Discussions are also currently in progress regarding additional radio markets through syndication.
The show is a fast-paced weekly mix of memorable music and nostalgic conversation. Each week is a specially planned salute to a year or theme. Shows involving a “year” reflect hits from that year, as well as conversation about the corresponding news, people, places, and events.
Theme shows highlight such concepts as “What Is Beach Music”, “The Evolution of Soul Music”, “A Birthday Salute to Elvis Presley”, “The Country Influence on Rock & Roll”, “The Songwriters”, “The Ladies of Rock & Soul”, “The Iconic Record Labels”, etc.
In keeping with his extensive knowledge of musical history, all the songs are personally picked by Ron and are thoroughly researched for historical authenticity. The result is a fun-packed two hour weekly escape to a more nostalgic time. It’s what can best be described as “Musical Mayberry”.
Ron Moody is a member of The Beach Music Hall of Fame and is the co-founder and leader of the longtime Richmond Virginia based band, Ron Moody and the Centaurs. He has also recorded for Columbia, ABC, and MGM Records. Aside from his writing and recording career, he worked for major record labels (ABC/Dunhill, Polygram, and Universal) for 35 years, and has taught numerous college classes and participated in countless public forums on the history of Rock & Roll.

My love for beach and shag music goes back a long way. The first opportunity to dj was assisting a friend for private parties. Then the fever became full blown into being a member of The Association of Beach and Shag Club DJ’s for a number of years enjoying DJ throw down weekend and other opportunities to play at the beach. Private parties, wedding receptions etc and club opportunities was what I enjoyed until medical issues forced me to stop.
My first radio experience was with WZKY in Albemarle NC from 2007-2015 and then WLWL 770 Rockingham NC from 2016-2018.
When my wife and I moved to Garden City SC the trip every week became to much time spent on the road.
Happy to be joining Scott and the great line up of dj’s at Beach Trip Radio
Feel free to contact me by email to make your request
My introduction to Beach Boogie and Blue began in 1987 with a trip to my wife’s class reunion in S.C. I’ve always been a music collector, but I wasn’t versed in the music of Shag. At that simple event fell in love with the music, the dance and the people.
We returned to the Golden Isles of Georgia where a group formed “The Golden Isles Shag Club”. My wife “Babs” and R.B. Gentry (Musician and band member of The Hands of Time) provided lessons. I began to play music during our weekly meetings, which combined lessons with a weekly party on a BOOM BOX!
As time progressed, I joined the Association of Beach & Shag Club DJs becoming a “Lifetime Member”, serving as Chaplain and webmaster for a time. My DJ travels have taken me to many clubs and private parties from one coast to the other and as far South as Daytona Beach Florida and “The Orange Squeeze”. Additionally, I became one of the rotating DJs for the First Coast Shag Club in Jacksonville, Florida. My Music experiences include being a trained singer and an author of Blues and Beach Music reviews for assorted magazines. I write a blog on Facebook entitled “I’ll Go Where the Music Takes Me, Music Reviews”, This was the opening song whenever I played.
These reviews brought me into studios and the recording industry. Friends and foes have provided me with rough cuts and constructive criticism. I continue to participate in the creative process while learning more and more over time.
I became a Charter member of The Beach Music Association International (BMAI) until the death of the founder (the late “Billy Scott” of Billy Scott & The Prophets). I met with many politicians, entertainers and music folks across the country. We held Beach Music Day in the state capitols of South Carolina and North Carolina and were expanding to Virginia, Georgia and Florida at the time of Billy Scott’s death. Additionally, during BMAI’s growth we were instrumental in creating a law that became nationally recognized to protect performers’ rights to their trade name, and were instrumental in making the Shag the state dance of S.C.
I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in the Summer of 2020. While trying to deal with the news of kidney cancer, I received a call from a long-time radio friend “Pat Gwinn”. He asked me to develop a unique radio show and he’d give it a shot to see if the public liked it.
By happenstance we saw a sign from “Fat Harold’s Beach Club” which read “God Loves You When You Dance”. It became the name of my first and current radio show. It’s a gospel show which has evolved to include danceable gospel and positive upbeat praise songs that range from traditional gospel to country, contemporary and even foreign gospel tracks.
Following the success of this first radio show, I wanted to give contemporary Beach, Boogie and Blues music a try and “Now & Then, The Shag Show” was born. This show compares yesterday’s charted tracks against those of today.
My shows are currently broadcast on multiple internet and traditional AM/FM stations and heard around the world.
I am now very pleased to be part of the Beach Trip Radio family. I look forward to hearing your requests which can be made by email to: djmikeyr@mail.com or on Facebook messenger at Michael Roberts.
